Rachael Louise Walker was born at 9:35pm on Monday 26th February - 5 days early. She weighed in at 7lb 9oz.
Mum is of course exhausted, after a 13-hour labour, which progressed well but got very difficult toward the end. Rachael was whisked off to the special care baby unit not long after birth because she was having difficulty breathing, and a small rash. We have been told that this is just precautionary due to the Group B Strep, and she is now breathing normally.
Rachael has some superficial injuries from a rather difficult entrance to the world, so she is not very happy - but she calmed right down after her first little meal, and then later when she heard daddy's voice!
Mum hasn't really had a chance to meet Rachael yet, but dad held her for a while (this is weird - referring to ourselves as mum and dad!). We are hoping she will be allowed out of the special care unit at some point today (Tuesday).
Here she is in the SCBU:
And here you can see why she has a nasty headache - she can't lie on her back at the moment because of that enormous bruise. The white line is a flap of skin from the injury.
